Kalambaka held last April 2 the session "Poisoned Baits: Impact on Biodiversity & techniques for treating poisoned fauna" directed to key stakeholders and public services. The workshop was organized by the project partner ARCTUROS in the frame of the Communication Actions. ελληνικά
The management of stray animals and rabid animals are directly linked with the illegal use of poisoned baits and public health in Greece. Given that rabies outbreaks are increasing in Northern Greece, they should be directly connected with poisoned animals, which are a key focus of disease transmission and increase sharply the chances of transmission.
Through the workshop were debated many questions about the lack of explicit responsibilities and mechanisms required for the management of poisoned animals and carcasses, in order to avoid discouraging citizens to report incidents in their area.

The proposals which have been submitted by the National Group of Environmental organizations and agencies to address the poisoned baits problem to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change were also presented and discussed.
The previous day, on Monday, April 1, 2013 the pilot area of Kalambaka also held an act for delivering plaques to the members of the European Networks of Municipalities and Hunting Associations against Poisoning (ENMAIP and ENHAIP) which are participating in the European LIFE + project entitled "Innovative actions against illegal poisoning in EU Mediterranean pilot areas" [LIFE09 NAT/ES/000533].
